Along with technological growth of computers, statistical techniques are now widely used by many people for resolving problems in the area of management, business, marketing, quality operation, best quality, forecasting, risk analysis of consumer satisfaction, environment and others. This makes the contribution of Statistics and computer science increasingly important.

General Objective
The overall objective of the Applied Statistics and Computer Science Program at BINUS UNIVERSITY aims to provide students with the opportunity to study a high-quality course that increases their knowledge of the subject, performance, and work ethic. The specific objective is to provide the knowledge, discipline insight and expertise in Applied Statistics and Computer Science in order that the students can increase their ability to:

  1. Understand statistics to support problem-solving in other fields;
  2. Understand the use of decision making, statistical quality control, production analysis;
  3. Understand statistical reasoning and alternative ways of thinking;
  4. Understand the underpinnings of Statistics and Computer Science;
  5. Use communication skills and improve interpersonal skills;
  6. Solve problems with computers and other mathematical laboratories software;
  7. Combine Statistics and Computer Science;
  8. Conduct research and analyze data using various methods;
  9. Continue studies in either, or both, of these disciplines;
  10. Handle intellectually difficult problems that can be transferred to the work environment;
  11. Create and analyze mathematical models.

With reference to the Vision and Mission of BINUS UNIVERSITY, the role of Statistics and Computer Science in the future, and its current standing in Indonesia, the study program contains the following elements:

  1. Solid education and reliable transference of skills in Statistics and Computer Science to increase analytical capability and software engineering;
  2. The academic atmosphere that will facilitate students’ learning in order to develop skills in Applied Statistics and Computer Science as well as additional skills in Statistics, Management and Informatics;
  3. An environment that fosters active learner independence and encourages students to be able to succeed in their professional career and in the fields related to Applied Statistics and Computer Science as well as Statistics and Informatics Engineering.

Furthermore, this department provides the means and expertise in Statistics and Computer Science to prepare students for a career as a statistician and systems analyst, system programmer, reliable software engineer, capable of developing Applied Statistics and Computer Science in the fields of education, business, management, industry, computers and their applications, research and biotechnology, both in Indonesia and among the nations of the world.
